Ontario Government Expanding High-Speed Internet in Brock Township

Brock Township — All Canadians need reliable and affordable high-speed Internet, no matter where they live. The government of Ontario is taking action to bring high-speed internet access to unserved and underserved communities across the province. This week, the Ministry of Infrastructure announced over $22 million in combined federal and provincial funding for the Regional Municipality of Durham to bring high-speed internet access to more than 1,400 homes across multiple communities, including Sunderland and the surrounding area.

“I am happy to announce that Ontario continues to make progress in building fibre infrastructure to deliver high-speed internet to Sunderland and Brock Township, which is part of a record-breaking $4 billion investment” said Laurie Scott, MPP of Haliburton Kawartha Lakes-Brock. “This is one of many announcements to come as the provincial government and its partners work to connect all Ontarians to reliable high-speed internet. I look forward to the variety of opportunities this will provide rural communities across the riding.”

“By continuing to invest in key infrastructure, we are empowering communities, businesses and individuals alike” said Kinga Surma, Ontario’s Minister of Infrastructure. “We will continue to bridge the digital divide, foster economic growth, and ensure that everyone can work and learn online, participate in the agriculture sector and connect with their loved ones.”

“Access to high-speed and affordable internet in Durham’s rural communities is essential for businesses to operate and residents to thrive” stated John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer, Regional Municipality of Durham.

The Ontario government is investing nearly $4 billion to meet their goal of bringing access to reliable high-speed internet to every community across the province. This is the largest single investment in high speed internet in any province, by any government in Canadian history.

Quick Facts
