$180,000 Grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to Replace Failing Insulation
May 25, 2026
Minden, ON – On Saturday, MPP Laurie Scott met with the team at Minden Curling Club to learn more about the long-term impact of the $180,000 Capital grant the Club received in 2025 from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). The grant was used to re-insulate the walls and ceiling of the Minden curling rink, helping to extend the life of the curling club and improve energy-efficiency.
“Curling clubs are at the heart of many rural communities, brining people together across generations for recreation, competition, and connection,” said Laurie Scott, MPP for Haliburton–Kawartha Lakes–Brock. “Through this $180,000 Ontario Trillium Foundation grant the Minden Curling Club will be able to improve efficiency, protecting the facility for the future and helping ensure the sound of curling stones and community laughter continues to fill the rink for years to come.”
The Minden Curling Club contracted Muskoka Spray Foam Insulation out of Burks Falls to complete the project. It started with the removal of the metal wall panels and the removal and disposal of the 50-year-old insulation, and sections of the roof insulation removed were soaking wet from leaks in the rink’s roof. Unknown to the curlers, a section of the wall insulation was home to a huge bird’s nest of pine needles and feathers. Spray foam insulation was applied to the walls and ceiling of the rink and the metal walls reinstalled. In conjunction with this project, the Township of Minden Hills will be replacing the leaking roof.
John Sexton, an ice technician at the Minden Curling Club was quoted as saying “It’s a game changer!”
